Google has announced the launch of new AdWords Alerts and more options in Custom Alerts in Google Analytics Intelligence.
If a user has their Analytics and AdWords accounts linked, Intelligence will provide important changes in AdWords campaigns performance within Analytics.
"So, in addition to the alerts you are used to getting, such as time on site and revenue, you’ll now receive alerts about your AdWords campaigns and the traffic they are bringing to your website,” Google explains. "You might already be familiar with custom alerts in Google AdWords, which alert you when important changes you specify happen in your account. With AdWords alerts ...

Estimate: Google Mobile Search Market...
Written by firstrank on July 29, 2010
Let’s be cautious about running too far with these numbers, but Royal Pingdom (using data from StatCounter) has reported/estimated Google’s global mobile search market share to be almost 100%
Google is clearly dominant in mobile search across smartphones (and feature phones). However these numbers may not be completely accurate. For example, the chart above shows PC and mobile search market share according to StatCounter. But while the general PC search share numbers may reflect selected markets (e.g., UK) they’re not accurate for the US and a number of other places around the world.
I’ve conducted mobile user surveys and seen plenty of ...

Yahoo Answers Gets Major Search Upgra...
Written by firstrank on July 17, 2010
Yahoo Answers, the number one Answers/Q&A search engine on the web, has announced a series of improvements to the search experience on the site. The new search options are a welcome addition to what was long one of the site’s Achilles heels. Here’s an overview of some the new tools:
Search results can now be sorted by relevance, time (newest/oldest), and number of answers (most/least).
These sorting options have been available when browsing categories, but I believe they’re new to Yahoo Answers’ search results pages. The sorting options appear at the top of the search results.
On the left side of the search ...

Google Acquires Metaweb For Smarter S...
Written by firstrank on July 17, 2010
Two days ago, Marissa Mayer published an article in which she mentioned the wide range of meanings a simple search term like "jaguar" can have. Now, Google's taken a big step towards improving its grasp of language, with the company announcing this afternoon that it's acquired Metaweb.
Let's address two points right now. First, Google did not disclose the purchase price. Second, we have no idea why news of this acquisition was sandwiched between Apple's iPhone 4 press conference and the start of the weekend, when it seems unlikely to get a lot of coverage.
Otherwise, Jack Menzel, a director of product ...

MySpace Acquires Threadbox Assets, Te...

MySpace's messaging interface may soon take a turn for the better - and/or the Facebook-like. Late yesterday, MySpace acknowledged that it's acquiring the assets and team of Threadbox, which deals in real-time social messaging and takes some amount of pride in comparisons to Facebook.
A short statement on the Threadbox homepage tells what the company's service is all about in reasonably objective terms, explaining, "Threadbox Messenger combines the convenience of email, real-time, and presence from instant messaging, and the simplicity and effortless sharing of social communications."
Then, in even bigger lettering, the homepage claims, "Threadbox Messenger is the new email."
And as you ...

Twitter Adds Usernames To Search Resu...

As TechCrunch discovered today, Twitter is now showing a sample of matching usernames/accounts for name-based queries on Twitter.com.
A search for matt mcgee (without the @ symbol) now shows my account and the names of two others above the tweets that match the search query. There’s also a small link to view a more complete set of name search results.
If you’re a celebrity, this should mean a big increase in followers who can now find your account more quickly. But, as TechCrunch rightly points out, this name-based search will also surface many fake accounts that trade on the name of celebrities ...

Wake up America, check Facebook
Written by firstrank on July 08, 2010
Americans are increasingly obsessed with Facebook and many young women check their page even before using the bathroom in the morning, according to a poll.
Thirty-four per cent of the women aged 18 to 34 surveyed by Lightspeed Research for Oxygen Media said checking Facebook was the first thing they did in the morning, even before washing their face or brushing their teeth.
Twenty-per cent admitted they sneak a peek at Facebook during the night while 26 per cent said they get up in the middle of the night to read text messages.
Thirty-nine per cent of the 1,605 social media users aged ...

Google Introduces Real-Time Blogger S...
Written by firstrank on July 06, 2010
Traffic mongers and general-purpose stats hounds now have another compelling reason to use Blogger: last night, a statistics tool called Blogger Stats was introduced, and believe it or not, it in some ways one-ups Google Analytics.
The first advantage of Blogger Stats is that it's integrated, meaning Blogger users won't have to deal with separate products and logins. The second improvement - and this is where the appeal to certain people lies - is that the stats relayed by the new tool are delivered in "near-real-time."
A post on the official Blogger in Draft blog explained, "You can see which posts are ...

Yahoo Closes European Directories, Sa...
Written by firstrank on June 19, 2010
Yahoo has closed its web directories in four countries, and it seems no one noticed. It happened back in December, and Yahoo is now redirecting those directories to the country-specific web search pages.
Sean Carlos dropped us a note about his blog post today on Antezeta.com, and we got this confirmation from Yahoo:
As part of Yahoo!’s ongoing effort to build products and services that deliver the best possible experiences for consumers, we are increasing investment in some areas while scaling back in others. After careful consideration, Yahoo! will no longer offer the Yahoo! Directory service on December 10, 2009 in France, ...

Caffeine Transforms Google From Bus t...
Written by firstrank on June 10, 2010
WebProNews spoke with Google's Matt Cutts out at SMX Advanced today. He talked a little about Caffeine, which Google just announced is complete, nearly a year after its initial announcement at SES, when Matt also spoke with us about it.
Caffeine, it should be noted, does not change how Google ranks content. It's all about the speed at which Google can index content. Cutts says you'll start seeing fresher results. This is separate from Google's real-time results. You'll see fresher results outside of that box as well.
He compared it to having a limo waiting for you to take you where you ...
