Written by firstrank on July 17, 2010
Yahoo Answers, the number one Answers/Q&A search engine on the web, has announced a series of improvements to the search experience on the site. The new search options are a welcome addition to what was long one of the site’s Achilles heels. Here’s an overview of some the new tools: Search results can now be sorted by relevance, time (newest/oldest), and number of answers (most/least). These sorting options have been available when browsing categories, but I believe they’re new to Yahoo Answers’ search results pages. The sorting options appear at the top of the search results. Written by firstrank on June 19, 2010
Yahoo has closed its web directories in four countries, and it seems no one noticed. It happened back in December, and Yahoo is now redirecting those directories to the country-specific web search pages. “Google Is Going To Have A Prob...

Written by firstrank on April 30, 2010
It's no secret that Google has, on a very steady basis, dominated its competition and managed to return big profits.  And Carol Bartz may be in no position to question the company's methods.  But Yahoo's CEO nonetheless chose to point out a potential weakness today, and she may be on the right track. Bartz told Jonathan Fildes, "Google is going to have a problem because Google is only known for search.  It is only half our business; it's 99.9% of their business.  They've got to find other things to do." Also, in terms of how Google will be judged as it attempts ...

Written by firstrank on April 25, 2010
Yahoo has launched a pilot program called "More Sponsors" in which it will add links at the bottom of Yahoo search results for more PPC adds. When a user clicks on one of the links it will bring up a page with nothing but sponsored search ads. The feature is supported by Yahoo's Search Assist features (the search engine's suggestions feature). "For example, the consumer might type in 'Hawaii vacation,' and Yahoo! might suggest vacations packages or resorts," explains Laurie Sullivan on Yahoo's Search Marketing blog. The More Sponsors feature will appear on Yahoo Search to begin with, but Yahoo will spread ...

Yahoo’s Head Of Advertising Pla...

Written by firstrank on April 25, 2010
Although it's hard to imagine that any company keeps all its employees forever, it looks like Yahoo continues to be worse than average in terms of retaining important people.  This afternoon, a report revealed that Bill Wise, who is in charge of Yahoo's Advertising Platforms business, will leave the same as so many before him. Wise started at Yahoo when the company acquired Right Media in 2007.  Prior to that, he served as Right Media's president, the CEO of Didit, a senior vice president at Ask, and a vice president at DoubleClick (among other things), which makes for a tough-to-match resume. Yahoo's ...
